The shared-hosting wall

Your host says no. Swift Clone asks politely, many times.

Most hosts cap how big one upload can be and how long one request can run. A real site blows past both. Swift Clone never asks for much at once: the browser sends the package in pieces sized to fit your server's limit, and the import works in short steps that hand back to the browser before the host can kill them.

One big upload Blocked

256× over the limit

Swift Clone 410 slices

each 1.9 MB, under your 2 MB limit

Pieces are 5 MB by default (up to 20 MB in Settings) and shrink automatically to fit your host. Each square above is one piece (up to 400 shown); a piece that fails is retried.

What's inside

Built for the sites
that are hard to move.

Everything a migration needs, and it all runs on your own server. Your packages, database and files never leave it.

Serialize-aware search & replace

Changing domains? A plain find-and-replace breaks every serialized option, widget and page-builder setting, because PHP stores the string length next to the text. Swift Clone rewrites the length too — inside serialized arrays, JSON and block markup.

No upload size limit

The package is sliced in your browser and sent in pieces that always fit your server's limit, so upload_max_filesize and post_max_size stop mattering.

Resumable, time-boxed

Export and import run as short steps, so a big site never depends on one long request.

Safety backup

By default your current database is saved before it's replaced, so an import can be undone.

Prefix remapping

Moving from wp_ to site2_? Tables, roles and capabilities are renamed for you.

True replace, not merge

After an import, wp-content matches the package exactly. Stale files from the old site are removed — your stored packages and the plugin itself are always kept.

Big downloads that finish

Packages over 500 MB are served straight by your web server through a temporary, unguessable link that expires after 2 hours — no PHP download timing out halfway through a 4 GB file.

One file, the whole site

Meet the .swiftpkg

A single portable package you can download, keep as a backup, or upload to any other WordPress install.

  • metadata.json — the site's URL, table prefix and package format version. Packages from an unsupported version are refused before anything changes.
  • database.sql — the full database, exported and imported in resumable slices.
  • files/ — your whole wp-content: uploads, themes, plugins, must-use plugins.
Three steps

Export. Upload. Log back in.

Old site

Export

Open Swift Clone → Export and create a package. Download it, or leave it stored in the backup manager.

New site

Import

Install Swift Clone on the destination, upload the package and press Import. Watch the live progress bar do its thing.

Done

Log back in

The import brings the old site's users with it, so you sign in with the old site's username and password.

Packages contain a full database dump, including password hashes. Swift Clone keeps them in a protected folder with an unguessable name and only lets administrators download them — keep the copies you download somewhere private too.
Questions

Before you move.

Still stuck? Email info@wevdev.com.

Will it work on shared hosting with small upload limits?

Yes. Swift Clone checks your server's upload limit and sends the package in pieces that always fit it (5 MB by default, up to 20 MB on generous hosts, smaller on strict ones), so even a 2 MB upload limit can't stop a multi-gigabyte migration. You can choose the largest piece size under Settings → Upload piece size.

My site is very large. Will the import time out?

Export and import both run as short, resumable steps, and the database is imported in resumable slices too, so most large sites move without hitting the host's time limit. The URL search-and-replace still runs as one step; on a very strict host (a 30–60 second PHP limit) with a very large database, ask your host to raise max_execution_time for the import.

Tip: for large sites, use Import Full Package. It runs in short resumable steps, so it's the safest choice for big sites.

Does it handle moving to a new domain?

Yes. URLs are rewritten with a serialize-aware search-and-replace, so widgets, options and page-builder data — including serialized and JSON values — keep working.

Will importing delete files that aren't in the package?

Yes — an import makes the site match the package. Your stored Swift Clone packages and the plugin itself are always kept, and a database safety backup is taken by default.

I moved from managed hosting and now see a fatal error.

Some hosts (EasyWP, Hostinger, WP Engine, Kinsta and others) add their own must-use plugins in wp-content/mu-plugins/ that need files outside wp-content. Delete those host-specific files on the new site.

Is my site's data sent anywhere?

Your site's packages, database and files never leave your server. The plugin has one optional extra: a newsletter signup on its Dashboard. Nothing is sent unless you tick the consent box and click Subscribe — and then only your email address, the plugin's name and its version go to wevdev.com. See the privacy policy.
